On 5 March 2026, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement on the proposal for a regulation on strengthening of the position of farmers in the food supply chain. The regulation aims to make written contracts a general rule, reinforce the bargaining power of producer organisations, simplify their recognition, and establish an incentive framework for voluntary schemes and social sustainability initiatives. During the June 2026 plenary session, Parliament is due to vote on the agreed text.
