The EPP Group wants to reduce fertiliser costs for European farmers and welcomes today’s proposal from the European Commission to provide additional support to farmers affected by the fertiliser crisis.
“Farmers, faced with soaring fertiliser prices and supply shortages following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, need urgent support. In this context, increasing advance payments and making them available earlier is crucial to provide farmers with much-needed liquidity,” said Herbert Dorfmann MEP, EPP Group Spokesman on Agriculture and Rural Development.
“The Commission’s proposal to mobilise additional common agricultural policy (CAP) funds to support farmers affected by the fertiliser crisis is a positive and necessary step. Strengthening the CAP crisis reserve, improving access to liquidity, and allowing greater flexibility for advance payments are therefore necessary,” said Norbert Lins MEP, the chief negotiator for the CAP post-2027.
