OOWC is making the scientific and technical content from its inaugural edition, held in Madrid in June 2024, freely available to the entire olive oil sector, ensuring that the knowledge generated continues to create value across the industry.
Presentations covering innovation, technology, production, quality, health and olive oil marketing are now available to view and download free of charge at www.oliveoilworldcongress.com/presentations
A sector that aims to compete globally must ensure that knowledge is shared. With this conviction, the Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) has made the presentations from its inaugural edition freely available to the public. The first Congress was held on 26-28 June 2024 at the headquarters of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid under the slogan ‘Taste it, enjoy it, it’s olive oil.’
Held two years ago in Madrid, the first Olive Oil World Congress generated a wealth of high-level scientific and technical knowledge that the OOWC considers a shared asset for the entire olive oil sector. In that spirit, the organisation has now made all the presentations from its inaugural edition publicly available, allowing researchers, companies, marketers, academics, students and industry professionals to consult and download them free of charge via www.oliveoilworldcongress.com/presentations.
‘The Olive Oil World Congress was created to become the world’s leading forum for knowledge exchange within the olive oil sector. Making these presentations publicly available ensures that the work carried out by researchers and professionals during the Congress continues to generate value long after the event itself. We want companies, technology centres, universities and professionals to have access to a practical resource that helps them innovate, improve their competitiveness and further strengthen the international profile of olive oil,’ said Ricardo Migueláñez, Secretary General of the OOWC.
The scientific programme of the first Olive Oil World Congress, developed by its Scientific Committee-comprising more than one hundred technology centres, research institutes and universities from around the world-brought together more than 50 national and international experts. It was organised into eight thematic areas covering the entire olive oil value chain: climate change and olive growing; genetics and production; processing technologies and digital transformation; product quality and authenticity; sensory properties; food safety; health and nutrition; and sustainability, communication and international marketing.
The presentations represent an invaluable source of knowledge for everyone involved in the olive oil sector, bringing together the latest scientific research, technological innovations and business strategies presented during the Congress. The inaugural edition featured an opening keynote address by Jaime Lillo, Executive Director of the International Olive Council (IOC), and concluded with remarks by Luis Planas, Spain’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, establishing the OOWC from its very first edition as the leading international forum for the global olive oil sector.
Olive oil is currently enjoying unprecedented global relevance, driven by growing demand in emerging markets and increasing scientific and gastronomic interest. In this context, making the knowledge generated through the OOWC accessible to all industry professionals is more than an act of openness-it is a commitment to strengthening the sector’s collective competitiveness and supporting the future of a product that is both a cultural heritage and a major economic driver.
