Following the vote in plenary taken today on the Nature Restoration Law (NRL), Copa and Cogeca regret the outcome of this non-rejection with 329 MEPs voting in favour, 275 against and 24 abstentions.
The farming, forest-owning, and cooperative community of Europe greatly regrets the lack of support for the amendment of the Nature Restoration Law. Copa and Cogeca have always been in favour of Nature Restoration as a whole, but not the way this law has been constructed or pushed through which was flawed from the start. Currently it is unacceptable, and we will continue to make sure that it is clear that its implementation will cause serious issues for the farming and forestry communities of Europe. Chief amongst the issues facing nature restoration is how this law will be financed and how land managers and landowners will be supported to actively make long-term changes happen with short-term monies.
Copa and Cogeca as the European farmers, forest-owners, and cooperatives will continue to work with national governments in order to ensure that this flawed law is implemented with as little harm to the primary sectors in the Member States as possible.
