The EPP Group will vote in favour of a package of measures to simplify the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy and cut red tape. The measures include raising aid for small farms to €75,000, doubling flat-rate payments to €5,000, and easing certain environmental rules and eligibility thresholds for crisis support.
The Simplification measures, which will be debated today in the European Parliament and voted on tomorrow, have been one of the initiatives the EPP has been pushing for ever since the European elections last year.
“For the EPP Group, this is a crucial initiative, the baseline for cutting excessive red tape. We are the party of farmers; we must help them. Our message is simple: reduce the burden, and let farmers farm,” said Dan-Ştefan Motreanu MEP, the EPP Group’s lead negotiator on the file.
The EPP Group also warns against sidelining the CAP in the upcoming long-term EU budget. All attempts to cut resources or merge the funds will be firmly rejected.
“We will continue to fight for a smart, strong, well-funded, and truly common CAP. One that strengthens farmers’ role in the supply chain, safeguards direct payments, supports innovation and generational renewal, ensures fair market conditions, and provides adequate funding for rural development,” Motreanu concluded.
