Job Title: Agronomist
Reporting to: Head of Agronomy
Purpose of role: To manage the technical and strategic aspects of berry crop operations, ensuring high standards of productivity, quality, and sustainability through effective planning, monitoring, and continuous improvement of agronomic processes.
Main Duties
• Monitoring and Analysis
o Conduct systematic monitoring of pests and diseases, maintaining structured records, performing risk assessments, and defining intervention thresholds.
• Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
o Develop and implement comprehensive IPM plans covering biological, cultural, and chemical control strategies.
• Application Coordination
o Manage and coordinate the team responsible for pesticide applications, ensuring best practices, safety, and operational efficiency.
o Record, verify, and validate all application data, ensuring full traceability and compliance with legal and internal standards.
• Quality and Certification
o Ensure that production processes meet all quality, food safety, and certification requirements (Global G.A.P., GRASP, HACCP), including regular internal auditing.
• Functional Biodiversity
• Oversee biodiversity initiatives, including:
o Management of permanent or seasonal cover crops;
o Maintenance and evaluation of ecological buffer zones;
o Introduction of beneficial companion plants and refuge strategies for supportive fauna.
• Health and Safety
o Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and promote a proactive, prevention-focused culture within the team.
• Innovation and Continuous Improvement
o Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and propose improvements, innovative solutions, and new agronomic approaches aligned with sustainability, efficiency, and business objectives.
Skills & Experiences:
• Degree or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering or similar;
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in soft fruit cultivation or production;
• Familiarity with certification standards and good agricultural practices;
• Fluency in Portuguese and English (spoken and written);
• Strong digital competencies;
• Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills;
• Strategic mindset with a clear orientation towards results;
• Ability to make data-driven decisions;
• Effective communication and team management skills;
• Adaptability and a strong drive for innovation.
