Milieu Consulting SRL is currently developing a project to support the European Commission, Directorate-General for the Environment (DG ENV), in the implementation of the EU’s pledge to plant 3 billion trees by 2030 in full respect of ecological principles. The project involves the development of webinars and workshops to discuss the key challenges of planting trees.
We would like to invite you to the second webinar, scheduled for 19 April 2023, from 10:00 to 12:00 CET, on the new EU Guidelines on afforestation.
The Commission will introduce and explain the two sets of EU guidelines released today aiming to ensure the preservation and reforestation of EU forests, enhance their quality, and increase their resistance to climate change. The first set of guidelines provides practical recommendations for authorities, forest and landowners, managers, and civil society to effectively undertake Biodiversity-Friendly Afforestation, Reforestation and Tree Planting. The second set focuses on Defining, Mapping, Monitoring and Strictly Protecting EU Primary and Old-Growth Forests, providing practical guidance to national policy and decision-makers for protecting the remaining primary and old-growth forests in the EU. They address afforestation in agricultural land; reforestation in forest areas, including restoration actions; and tree planting in urban and peri-urban environments, as well as agricultural land (agroforestry).
Through both active planting and natural regeneration, these guidelines constitute one of the key milestones to implement the 3 billion additional trees pledge of the EU by 2030.
