When we talk about having a more sustainable diet or even a more sustainable food system, a lot of different aspects usually come to mind. Soil is rarely at the top. Today’s farming practices speed up soil erosion, kill microorganisms living in it, release carbon that would otherwise be locked up under our feet and compromise an increasingly scarce water supply. What is going on with soil? And what can we do to take better care of it?
Mafalda Gameiro, one of last year’s EIT Food Journalism Awards first prize winners, will host a webinar about this crucial component of life on Earth. She will be joined by a panel of specialists on soil: Marta Vasconcelos, Deputy Director of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry and professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa; Nuno Cortez, professor at Instituto Superior de Agronomia; and Melissa Comellas, Agricultural Project Manager at EIT Food.
