EESC calls to preserve EU model of agriculture and family farming in CAP reform

In an opinion adopted late last week (June 1), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) called for preservation of the EU model of agriculture and family farming under the forthcoming review of the CAP, as well as closing of the income gap between urban and rural areas and harmonising the level of direct payments across the EU.

In the document, entitled ‘A possible reshaping of theCommon Agricultural Policy’, drafted at the request of European CommissionVice-President Frans Timmermans, the EESC places emphasis on strengthening andreshaping the CAP in a “positive way” to meet
