Philip Hambling head of food & farming at NFU

Mr Hambling, who has previously worked for Randall Parker Foods, the British Meat Processors Association and Defra, will take up his post in mid-April.

He said: “The NFU has a hugely important and influential role to play in the development of agriculture and food chains at this time of significant challenge and potential opportunity for UK producers.

“I particularly look forward to working with the NFU’s commodity boards, offering my experience of working in Government, as well as with policy makers inside and outside commercial value chains, to help us shape and capture the best of those opportunities for UK farmers and growers.”

Mr Hambling is currently senior agriculture manager at Sainsbury’s, who were criticised by the NFU this week for pursuing an ‘an anti-meat agenda’.

The post was vacated by Phil Bicknell, who joined the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) in December last year.
