New avian flu outbreaks hit US and Russia

New outbreaks of avian flu have been reported in large commercial poultry flocks in the US and Russia, potentially adding to disruption for an industry already wrestling with disease problems in Europe, Asia and Africa.

In a statement on Sunday (March 5), the USDA’s Animal andPlant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the presence of highlypathogenic H7 avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial chicken breeder flock inLincoln County, Tennessee.
