Food, agriculture, nutrition aid requested for famine-hit South Sudan

UN agencies have declared an official famine in South Sudan, warning that nearly five million people in the country urgently need food, agriculture and nutrition assistance.

The number of ‘food insecure’ people is set to rise to 5.5 million at theheight of this summer’s lean season if nothing is done to curb the severity andspread of the food crisis, said the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO),UNICEF and the World
