EU Science Advisory Council recommends regulating by trait rather than breeding process

The European Science Advisory Council (EASAC) has advised EU policymakers to regulate according to the specific agricultural trait/product rather than the genome-editing technology by which a plant is produced.

In a report published yesterday (March 23),the body – formed by the national science academies of member states in order tocollaborate and give advice to EU policy-makers – insisted that legislatorsmust ensure that decisions on genome-editing techniques
