EU compensates French farmers for avian flu losses

France is to receive more than €40 million in EU funding to help compensate farmers for losses linked to avian flu control measures taken last year.

While addressingthe immediate threat however, these measures did little to prevent a subsequentresurgence of the virus – with hundreds of thousands more birds now having tobe culled.
